The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

In this report we will concentrate on the "problems" seen by customers with their equipment. We see these kinds of things all the time here in the shop, and hopefully this information will save you an unnecessary trip to the shop.

The 10 Most Common TV Problems That Aren't

Problem # 1: Can't get channels above channel 13 Your TV is in the "air" mode. To remedy this problem, you must either autoprogram your TV, or set your unit to the cable mode in the menu.

Problem # 2: Channels won't change, can only get 1 channel This is similar to problem #1. Your TV needs to be autoprogrammed again using the menu.

Problem # 3: TV has a funny looking menu, looks like an ad This unit is in what is called the "demo" mode. Contact the manufacturer and if they are of no help, call us and we'll be happy to walk you through the process of getting rid of it.

Problem # 4: There's a black box blocking the picture We see this all the time. You TV has been accidentally placed into the closed caption mode. To clear this problem, bring up the menu and turn the closed captions off.

Problem # 5: I can't view certain channels on my TV This is usually a password or parental lock problem. If you have forgotten your password, you may be able to access the menu by using the factory default password that you'll find in your owner's manual. If this doesn't work, then you may have to contact the manufacturer for help.

Problem # 6: I don't have sound on some channels, spanish or the weather report on others This is another one we see a lot of. You unit is in the SAP or separate audio program mode. Access the menu and set the audio to normal, standard, or stereo.

Problem # 7: My TV just quit working This could indeed be a real problem, but maybe not. If you have cats or small dogs, do they hang out behind the TV a lot? If so, check and see if they have damaged the power cord or pulled it just far enough out of the wall to allow it to lose contact with the wall outlet. If this is not the case, carefully move the set out from the wall and smell the carpets and look at the back of the set for signs of wetness. If you find this, your pet is urinating into the set and has caused your unit to shut down. Unplug it and take it to the shop as soon as you can.

Problem # 8: No picture, all I get is snow The first thing to do here is to verify that everything is hooked up properly, and that the signal source you want to watch hasn't been changed. If you find no problem here, then you may have a cable box problem, or your satellite provider is down. Contact your company for details on any problem you might be having and don't forget to log on to their website for current information if you can't get through by phone.

Problem # 9: My remote doesn't work verify this by checking to see if you can turn on the set with the panel mounted power button. If this works and the set operates normally, then all you may need to do is change the batteries in the remote to restore operation.

Problem # 10: My TV doesn't work right since my son/daughter started playing with it Kids seem to have a real understanding of electronic gear, and some of them (my son included) love to monkey around with the menus. Some of them will even add their own passwords and setup their own access codes. It's rare that they can do any real harm so make sure that they tell you what they've done so you'll be able to enjoy your own programs.

I hope this list of the things we see everyday will help you to enjoy you TV a lot more, and save you money and time. Thank you and have a great day!

How to Fix 'Record is Deleted' Error in MS Access 2000

How to Fix 'Record is Deleted' Error in MS Access 2000

Microsoft Access, which comes bundled with Microsoft Office suite of Applications, is a pseudo-relational database manageMent system. The database creates either an.accdb or.mdb file. These files are prone to corruption in many scenarios including application malfunction, virus infection, operating system malfunction, and others. Also, when the database files are used in a multi-user environMent, they have higher chances of becoming corrupt. An abrupt shutdown by a user can affect the records or tables. In such scenarios, you must look for the clean and updated backup copy of the database. However, if no backup is available, you must use the inbuilt compact and repAir utility to repAir the damaged Access database. If nothing seems working, then look for a third-Party Access recovery software.

How to Fix 'Record is Deleted' Error in MS Access 2000

Consider a scenario, wherein, you try to open a table, query, form or report in a Access 2000 database (which is used in a multi-user environment), stored on a network or server, you may receive the following error:

"Record is deleted."

If the object is a table or query, you may receive another error message which goes like:

"Msaccess can't open the table in datasheet view."

And, if the object is a report, then you will also get the following error messages:

"Unable to carry out the command."

Or

"There was an error executing the command."

Cause

The above errors surface when either an object or database is damaged. Damage can occur, for example, if two users try to modify the same record in a table simultaneously, and one user quits MS Access by abruptly shutting down the system.

Resolution

To overcome the problem, you can undertake the following Access Recovery steps:

Compact and repAir database
1.In Access 2000, go to Tools menu, point to Database utilities, and then click Compact and Repair Database
2.In the Database to Compact Form dialog box, locate and then click the database which is generating the error messages, and then click Compact.
3.In the Compact Database Into dialog box, select an appropriate folder location for the new file, type a unique name for the file in the File name box, and then click Save.

The above method can work fine if there are minor damages in database, but in case of severe damages, you must consider opting for a professional Access repair utility. Such tools can recover damaged databases without modifying the original data.

Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface

The software giant has built a new touchscreen Computer--a coffee table that will change the world. Go inside its top-secret developMent with PopularMechanics.com, then forget the keyboard and mouse: The next generation of Computer interfaces will be hands-on.

One of the consumer pain points is the frustrating mess of cables, drivers and protocols that people must use to link their peripheral devices to their personal computers. Surface has no cables or external USB ports for Plugging in peripherals.

For that matter, it has no keyboard, no mouse, no trackball-no obvious point of interaction except its screen. If you place a digital camera on the Surface, digital pictures will spill out onto the tabletop in an instant.

As you touch and drag eachpicture, it follows your fingers around the screen. If you pull the corners of a photo you can stretch it to a new size. You can also put a cellphone on the surface and drag photos to it-just like that, the pictures will upload to the phone.

It's like a magic trick! You can drag and drop virtual content to physical objects. The name Surface comes from "surface computing," and Microsoft envisions the coffee-table machine as the first of many such devices.

Surface computing uses a blend of wireless protocols, special machine-readable TAGs and shape recognition to seamlessly merge the real and the virtual world-an idea the Milan team refers to as "blended reality."

The table can be built with a variety of wireless transceivers, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and (eventually) radio frequency identification (RFID) and is designed to sync instantly with any device that touches its surface.

One of the key components of surface computing is a "multi-touch" screen. It is an idea that has been floating around the research community since the 1980s and is swiftly becoming a hip new product interface-Apple's new iPhone has multi-touch scrolling and picture manipulation.

Multitouch devices accept input from multiple fingers and multiple users simultaneously, allowing for complex gestures, including grabbing, stretching, swiveling and sliding virtual objects across the table. And the Surface has the added advanTAGe of a horizontal screen, so several people can gather around and use ittogether.

Its interface is the exact opposite of the personal computer: cooperatives, hands-on, and designed for public spaces. If it seems as though the Surface machine sprang up out of nowhere, that's only because Microsoft has been unusually secretive about it.

Early designs of the table are evidence of the product's long developMent cycle; rejected shapes include "bindo white egg" and "podium." Steven Bathiche, research manager for the project, has been involved since 2001, when he and fellow researcher Andy Wilson first dreamed up the idea of a tabletop computer.

Microsoft's Surface uses the same DLP light engine found in many rear-projection Hdtvs. The footprint of the visible light screen, 1024 x 768 pixels at, is actually smallerthan the invisible infrared overlapping projection to allow for better recognition at the edges of the screen.

It is a splashy new computer interface, surrounded by hype, but it is also, quite literally, furniture. It is a technology in its infancy, where even the engineers behind it can't predict its full impact; but the possibilities are everywhere, underhand and underfoot-on every surface imaginable.

iPod Video Downloads-How and Where To Download Your Favorite Videos

Whether you just got a new iPod or are an old-time user, there are always new things you will discover about that little gadget. Downloading videos to your iPod is not as straight-forward for a newbie, and even those who have been using iPods for a while.

Essentially, your iPod can support video formats, 2 h. 264 video and MPEG-4 video. An important question many folks perhaps including you would ask-so which one is better? On the surface, h. 264 appears to be better than MPEG-4 because of the crystal clear picture quality. It also takes much lesser space than MPEG-4. This simply means that you can pack more videos and music into your iPod if you use this video format. There are some who would argue that both formats are equally excellent in terms of picture qualitywhen the encoding is done at higher supported video settings.

If everything remains ceteris paribus, i.e. status quo, shouldn't h. 264 format be the only choice all should select? However, there remains a fact which iPod users who have been using h. 264 video format would agree and that is it takes much longer to encode the video than using MPEG-4 format. So if you are building a wide collection of iPod video downloads and don't have the patience to wait, you should consider using MPEG-4.
